How long does it take?
From Istanbul to Sapanca it takes 2-2,5 hours under normal conditions. The distance between Sapanca and Maşukiye is short, while the ascent to Kartepe varies according to the season. On Friday evenings and on the return journey on Sundays, traffic becomes heavier; allowing an extra 30-45 minutes at these times is realistic.
How is the day arranged?
A common sequence is as follows: the lakeside area in the morning, a lunch break by the stream in Maşukiye at midday, and then the ascent to Kartepe or a nature walk in the afternoon. This order works well both in terms of crowds and light — the lakeside area is quieter in the morning, while the view from Kartepe is better in the afternoon light.

Venues set by the stream, dining spots focused on trout, short nature walking routes, and the waterfall area. In the summer months it becomes noticeably busier at weekends; a weekday itinerary is much more comfortable.
Kartepe ascent
Kartepe is reached by vehicle. In winter, the ascent depends on weather and road conditions; in snowy conditions the journey may take longer or the ascent may not be possible. If skiing is planned, the equipment should be included in the luggage allowance.

Some venues around Sapanca and Maşukiye are located on narrow and steep roads. If the name of the destination is provided at the time of booking, the route is planned accordingly. If the road is not suitable for the vehicle, travel continues to the nearest suitable point and this is communicated in advance.
