How does crossing the side affect travel time?
Every transfer between the European and Anatolian sides is made via one of three routes, and the choice depends on live traffic conditions:

Between the two airports
This is the most critical calculation for connecting travel. The distance between Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gokcen is approximately 90 km, and it takes 90-120 minutes in normal traffic. During peak hours, it can take up to 150 minutes.

Why are the times given as ranges?
It would be easy to give a single number, but it would also be misleading. The variables that affect travel time are:
- Time of day. 07:00-10:00 in the morning and 17:00-20:00 in the evening are the busiest periods.
- Day. Friday evenings and Sunday returns are significantly busier.
- Weather conditions. Rain means the duration increases by at least twenty percent.
- Season. In summer, out-of-city routes get busier; in winter, ski routes become crowded.
- Terminal and hotel entrance. Movement inside the airport and waiting at the hotel entrance also add to the total time.
For this reason, the safest approach is to plan based on the upper values in the table.
When should you leave to catch your flight?
The time you should be at the airport:
- Domestic flights — 2 hours before departure
- International flights — 3 hours before departure
- Peak season and holidays — 3.5 hours before international flights
You should add the journey time and traffic allowance to this. Two examples:
From Taksim to Istanbul Airport, for a 09:00 international flight:
3 hours airport allowance + 1 hour journey + 30 minutes traffic allowance = departure around 04:30.
From Kadikoy to Sabiha Gokcen, for an 08:00 international flight:
3 hours airport allowance + 45 minutes journey + 30 minutes traffic allowance = departure around 03:45.
